Wonderful (Not Really) Solo Trip to Singapore

After all this time, hey blog!

It's a wonderful thing to realize that you (blog) is still active and such a good use to share you my desperate, happy, sad, excited, to summarize mixtures of feeling. Well, there were ups and downs since the last write, setelah lulus I still had to continue my study in pharmacy professions program for about 1 year. There were no miracles, it's merely His plan and blessing. My current workplace was my desired one ever since before I graduated from my bachelor degree. He also gave me chance to have an external training through my company to Singapore. Yeay!

Permulaannya cukup panjang (fyuh), agak sedikit menyimpang dari titlenya. Anyway, back to the topic, this (not really) solo trip berawal dari tawaran 3 minggu sebelum training ini diadakan. Di satu tim kami hanya ada 3 orang research assistant, dan tawaran training ini hanya terbatas untuk 2 orang. So, beside my boss, it is either my seniors or me who got the last seat. But, since my senior (a very smart one) already proceed her resignation. The other senior? She is still a new employee, so here I am selected. Here I come Singapore!

I went at 29 Aug 2017 with my boss and we parted to each hotel. We stayed at Chinatown (a very crowded town). I could explore though, but since the training was at the morning the next day, so I decided to take a rest. The hotel was a boutique hotel, named Naumi Liora. At first, I was curious why the name is so uncommon and not suit to China Town. After browsing to its website, found that Naumi pronounce as know me and Liora means Light in Hebrew, so "know me as light". I can't relate with the name meaning, it's just name after all. But I should say, the hotel was very beautiful especially at night. I stayed at different hotel with my boss though it's only couple of blocks. As as a summary, the training was fine and this moment helps me to network with scientists here which was awesome!

I got a new friend, her name is Shuu. She's working at A* Singapore (same like LIPI here). I just told her about my plan to extend my stay for 2 days and asked for recommended places and food stalls to go (not a restaurant, expensive). She then kindly offered me a company to explore Singapore for a day. Yeayy! So, the next day we promised to meet at a mall, which I forgot the name of it. -ends here-

Fast forward, it was originally written on 7th December 2018, and now it is 14th March 2026 (8 years later). I decided to still publish this because it is so interesting to come from the future, and I can reflect and go back to my last writing in 2018. So, I remember the training was sponsored by Miltenyi (which also sponsored us to go), and it was held in the National Heart Centre Singapore. I met Shuu in the mall, and she accompanied me everywhere and tried everything. She even bought me the egg tart (which was hype that time), we went to the National Museum of Singapore (museum girly here), and finished up near the Merlion Park. She is a very kind person. However, on top of everything. It was such a wonderful opportunity in itself since I was exposed to an international laboratory and researchers for the first time. I was barely hired by Kalbe, and as a junior, to get this opportunity was a blessing. Now, I reflect on it as a PhD student in Galway, Ireland. Well, there are some pictures I took with my boss and Shuu here.
