ANGEL'S WINGS
ANGEL'S WINGS
At the crossroads, a face reflected the sunshine,
Wearing a smile so wide and bright.
Black sunglasses hid the eyes,
And I couldn’t quite see the angel’s wings.
A thousand thoughts filled my mind,
Only to melt away
Beneath that beautiful, upside-down rainbow
Curving across that face.
Tried to find his way
Through the sea of people,
Just to reach out
And offer a touch,
As warm as he could make it.
I thought, perhaps, there was no interest,
But it didn’t seem that way at all.
I fell into the angel’s wings,
Fell beneath their gentle protection.
It felt as though God had sent them to me,
Melting the ice around my heart.
My mistakes, sheltered beneath those wings.
My foolishness, forgiven so easily.
My nervousness?
Of course, even that.
And when the wings finally opened,
Soaking up the sunshine,
They began to shine even brighter.
I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
The feeling was too much to hold inside,
So I blurted it out—
Angel’s wings.
They are strong enough
To carry both him and me,
Beyond the clouds,
All the way to paradise.
And now,
I think I’m falling in love.
